CINCINNATI (June 5, 2013) — The Cincinnati Reds and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are partnering to “strike out hunger” locally by hosting a food collection drive on June 7 and 8 when the Reds host the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park.

All fans donating two non-perishable food items in designated food collection barrels inside the GABP gates will receive one View Level ticket to either the Tuesday, July 2 Reds vs. San Francisco Giants or the Wednesday, Aug. 21 Reds vs. Arizona Diamondbacks. Limit one ticket per person.

Barrels will also be available inside the Reds Front Office lobby (next to ticket windows) for fans without a game ticket.

"Many visitors to our food pantries are asking for help for the first time and after making sacrifices to keep up with the cost of living, they simply have nowhere else to turn for food." said Liz Carter, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul. "Especially when involving families with children or the sick and elderly who need nourishment to stay healthy, having a nutritious meal is a sacrifice nobody should have to make."

St. Vincent de Paul provided more than 100,000 people with groceries in 2012. Nearly half of that food was provided to families with children.

"2013 marks the seventh year the Reds have partnered with St. Vincent de Paul, and we're proud to be connected to such a giving organization," said Lindsey Lander, Reds Director of Community Relations. "It’s great that we can utilize Reds resources and involve our fans in the fight against hunger in Cincinnati."

The 2012 SVDP Reds Food Drive collected over 10,000 lbs. of food, enough to help the network of food pantries provide 8,500 meals.
