Cleveland Indians KeyBank High Achievers Kids Club

Grady Sizemore, official spokesman of the program, wants to reward students for academic achievement. Students in grades K-8 register online and are awarded points for good grades, perfect attendance and reading.

Accumulated points allow students to win Indians prizes, game tickets, experiences, autographed items and more! This FREE program also hosts KeyBank Sunday Kids Fun Days on Gateway Plaza, incorporating Signature Sundays and exclusive fun activities for High Achievers members.

"Tribe Reporter for a Day" - The Plain Dealer

A young fan gets to try out being a baseball reporter for a day.

This unique program is designed especially for high school students aspiring to pursue a career as a sportswriter. Students research, check facts and write an essay on their career as a journalist. Winners travel to Progressive Field to observe batting practice, conduct interviews with selected players and take in the game from a reporter's perspective.

Additionally, the overall winner of the essay contest has his work displayed in the Education section of the The Plain Dealer and the team website.

Pronk's Peeps

Launched by Indians' Designated Hitter Travis Hafner and wife Amy, Pronk's Peeps, is a program administered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland and designed to address life and self-esteem skills for Cleveland Metropolitan School District 7th graders. Thanks to Travis and Amy Hafner, the Pronk's Peeps program benefits nearly 450 students within the participating schools. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland facilitate Character and Leadership Development programs, with the purpose to influence positive decision making with respect to peer pressure, gangs, healthy relationships and drugs in the Passport to Manhood and SMART Girls programs.

ImpACTA Kids Foundation Scholarship Award

On behalf of the Cleveland Indians Manager, Manny Acta and the ImpACTA Kids Foundation, two (2) $2,500 scholarship awards will be given to (2) qualifying Cleveland-area 2011 graduating high school seniors be used towards their college education.

The 2011 ImpACTA Kids Foundation Scholarship Award recipients are also scheduled to be honored during pregame ceremonies prior to the Indians versus Rockies 7:05p.m. game on Tuesday, June 22.

In recognition of his achievements both on and off the field throughout his 11-year career with the Cleveland Indians, Sandy Alomar Jr., was inducted into the Indians Hall of Fame as the 33rd player in club history to be so honored. Sandy was the heart and soul of championship teams and he shared those leadership skills while participating in numerous community outreach initiatives benefiting the youth of NE Ohio. To honor Sandy's commitment to the Cleveland Indians and the youth of our area, the Cleveland Indians, in conjunction with Major League Baseball have created the Sandy Alomar Jr. Scholarship Award. This award recognizes a graduating Senior from St. Martin dePorres High School who excels in academics and community service.


Esperanza Scholarship

The Esperanza Scholarship Program awards college scholarships annually to eligible Hispanic students who reside in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Since 1994, Esperanza has awarded almost 600 scholarships, including 52 scholarships in 2009. The Cleveland Indians are a proud sponsor of the annual Esperanza Scholarship and the Fiesta of Hope Scholarship Luncheon. Mercedes L. Jackie Robinson Day

Each year on April 15th, the Cleveland Indians join Major League Baseball by celebrating the anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier throughout baseball. On this date in 1947, Robinson became the first African-American to play for a Major League Baseball team. In honor of Robinson, the players pay a special tribute to Robinson by wearing an Indians #42 jersey. Additional activities include a special on-field presentation to honor diversity suppliers, the legacy of Jackie Robinson, and the Jackie Robinson Foundation. The Jackie Robinson Foundation was established to help young people overcome obstacles, as it awards scholarships annually to full-time college students
