Indians promote Jerad Head from AAA Columbus

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has purchased the contract of OF JERAD HEAD from AAA Columbus. LHP NICK HAGADONE has been optioned to Columbus and OF MICHAEL BRANTLEY has been transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.

Head, 28, has spent the entire season at AAA Columbus where he is hitting .284 (120-422) with 28 doubles, 24 home runs, 67 runs scored and 70RBI in 114 games (.338OB/.526SLG/ .864OPS). Among International League leaders at present he is 3rd in the league in slugging % (.526) and home runs (24), 4th in total bases (222), 8th in OPS (.864), tied for 13th in RBI (70) and T12th in doubles (28). He has hit .291 (48-165, .911OPS) off LHP and .292 (59-202) with runners on base. In August he is hitting .303 (27-89) with 7 2B, 6HR & 13 RBI in 22 games (.607SLG/.940OPS). Head, in his 6th minor league season, was signed by the Indians as a non-drafted free agent in August 2005 out of Washburn University (KS). Head will wear #32 and be making his Major League debut.

Hagadone was recalled on August 26 and did not appear in a game.
