Winifred Torbert, the Director of Community Development for the Pittsburgh Pirates, is responsible for the development and implementation of public relations and market initiatives to target Pittsburgh markets with the goal of increasing attendance and goodwill among all fans.

Ms. Torbert is the principal liaison between Pittsburgh Pirates, diverse communities, minority and women-owned business suppliers, minority business directors and advocacy groups in the Pittsburgh region. She also nurtures the Pirates relationships with local minority and women-owned businesses and promotes the use of services and products offered by those businesses throughout the Pirates organization and Major League Baseball.

In her professional career, she has held executive positions with Sak's Fifth Avenue, Kaufmann's Department Store, Union Switch & Signal, Inc., and Duquesne Light Company.

Ms. Torbert has been a long-time volunteer with the following business organizations making the world a better place for all: Pittsburgh Regional Minority Purchasing Council Board; Negro Emergency Educational Drive Board of Trustees; North Side Chamber of Commerce Board; Josh Gibson Foundation Board; Corporate Advisory Board Pennsylvania Women Work; Urban League of Pittsburgh Corporate Challenger Committee; NAACP Membership Committee; The Kingsley Association's Spirit of King Program Committee; Boy Scouts of American Scoutreach Committee; Three Rivers Youth Corporate Leadership Council; African American Chamber of Commerce; Pittsburgh Metropolitan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Multicultural Arts Initiative Marketing Committee; Clergy & Churches United Friends Committee; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter; The Girl Friends, Inc. - Pittsburgh Chapter; Omega Wives - Pittsburgh Chapter and Educating Teens Against HIV/Aids Task Force Committee.

Her active participation and leadership has been acknowledged with her receipt of the following awards: Pittsburgh Pirates Margaret Polen Employee Excellence Award, Second Quarter FY 2004; Mt. Ararat Baptist Church's Community Activities Center Leadership Award 2005; Eleventh District O.E.I. P.H.A. Award of Excellence 2005; KDKA-TV Lift Up Award 2005; Pittsburgh Regional Minority Purchasing Council Sports and Entertainment Award for Supplier Diversity 2003 & 2004; Pittsburgh Regional Minority Purchasing Council Minority Advocacy Award 2004; Rainbow Push 9th Annual 2006 Wall Street Project/The Business of Sports Panelist: The Pittsburgh Metropolitan Hispanic Area Chamber of Commerce 2006 Siembra Award, and the MED Week 2006 MBE/WBE Advocate of the Year Award.

Ms. Torbert received her Masters Degree in Leadership and Liberal Studies from Duquesne University and an undergraduate degree in Business Management from Point Park University. She is married to Frank L. Torbert, Jr. and they have two adult children: Tamara and Frank, III.
