Grady Sizemore diving for a loose ball in a superhero cape, Travis Hafner hoisting a WWE championship belt and C.C. Sabathia disco dancing in a blue leisure suit and an afro.

These aren't necessarily the first images that spring to mind when Indians fans think about their favorite team's biggest stars.

But these are the images that will be bobbing up and down on springs in some of the more creative giveaways scheduled for the Tribe's 2007 slate of home games.

The Indians are unveiling a promotional calendar that is once again packed with pyrotechnics and flush with figurines. But this year, the schedule is heavy on themes and anything but ordinary.

Take, for example, "Superhero Weekend," which will take place during the April 27-29 series against the Red Sox. For the April 28 game, fans will receive a Sizemore bobster in which the superstar center fielder morphs into a superhero. The following day, the team will give away a green bat depicting Hafner as the Incredible Hulk.

Indians senior vice president of sales and marketing Vic Gregovits and his staff came up with these ideas as a way to give fans a new way to identify with the players.

"[The players] become even bigger than life," Gregovits said, "beyond their baseball skills."

Finding out what sort of promotions will attract fans is a skill in and of itself.

"There's a group of us that really lives and breathes this," Gregovits said. "We try to see what's working in other markets and what's new."

Several new ideas will be offered up at Jacobs Field this season. On April 10, in commemoration of the release of a DVD version of the movie "Major League," fans will be given a pair of Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn glasses. A Tom Hamilton talking bobblehead, featuring three of the Indians broadcaster's trademark phrases, will be given out for the July 28 game against the Twins. And on July 29, kids will be given a Slider Potato Head toy.

And, of course, there's the usual slate of fireworks shows, which will once again take place after every Friday home game and will be synchronized to music.

The fireworks shows won't be the only postgame entertainment. There will be an on-field faith concert performed by Mathew West after the July 14 game against the Royals, and an on-field comedy show after the Sept. 15 game against Kansas City.

The Indians will have several themed weekends, including a June 1-3 tribute to the 1970s, in which the Sabathia disco bobblehead will be given out, and a beach weekend, during which floppy hats will be offered up.

"We want the fans to come to the game and be a part of it," Gregovits said. "It's the entertainment portion of the ballgame."
