Indians at the plate: Victor Martinez led a potent offensive charge for the Tribe, as the catcher went 3-for-3 with a double and a towering three-run homer off Brian Moehler in the third. The Indians really broke the game open with a five-run sixth, in which Max Ramirez hit an RBI single, Mike Rose, who replaced Martinez behind the plate, drove in two runs with a double to center and Alan Zinter, called up from Minor League camp, knocked in another pair with a bloop single to right.

Astros at the plate: It was slow going for the Astros' starting lineup, which managed just a single run. That run came on Adam Everett's RBI single in the second.

Indians on the mound: Starter Jake Westbrook had a quick, efficient first inning but got behind the count a bit in the second. He was aided in the second by a nice double play turned by shortstop Jhonny Peralta and second baseman Josh Barfield and gave up a run on two hits and a walk in two innings of work. Paul Byrd also worked two innings, giving up no runs and one hit.

Astros on the mound: Starter Woody Williams struck out a pair in the first but was roughed up for a pair in the second, when he allowed a double and two singles. Moehler labored through the third, in which he left a 3-2 pitch up to Martinez, who crushed it over the right-field wall. Juan Gutierrez worked the fourth and fifth innings and gave up a run but also pitched his way out of some jams. Lincoln Holdzkom was beat up for the five-run sixth.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 1-0; Astros 0-1.

Up next: The Indians travel to Clearwater on Friday, with right-hander Fausto Carmona scheduled to start in place of an injured Cliff Lee (right abdominal strain). The Astros play their Grapefruit League home opener against the Tigers, with right-hander Roy Oswalt on the mound. Both games are slated to start at 1:05 p.m. ET.
