Indians at the plate: Non-roster invitee Luis Rivas had two doubles and an RBI single. The veteran infielder is in contention for the Indians utility infielder job; he competed for the same job with the Rays in 2006 before breaking a knuckle in his right hand. Ryan Garko had a two-run single in the first to give the Tribe a two-run lead.

Rays at the plate: Joel Guzman hit his first home run of the spring, a solo shot to center field off Indians starter Jeremy Sowers. Rocco Baldelli tripled to right field in the second and scored on a Carl Crawford single. Crawford, the reigning American League stolen-base king, then swiped second and third.

Indians on the mound: Sowers started for the second time this spring and pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out two.

Rays on the mound: Chad Orvella pitched two scoreless innings and gave up one hit, striking out one. The right-hander is competing for a job in the Rays bullpen. Left-hander Jon Switzer took a line drive off his right wrist and left the park to have precautionary X-rays.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 5-2; Rays 1-5.

Up next: Indians ace C.C. Sabathia will be on the mound when the Tribe hosts the Phillies at 1:05 p.m. ET on Thursday. The Phillies, guided by former Indians manager Charlie Manuel, will start left-hander Brian Mazone. Jason Davis, Brian Sikorski, Rafael Perez and Ed Mujica are all scheduled to pitch in relief for the Tribe. The Rays will travel to McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Fla., on Thursday for a 1:05 p.m. matchup with the Pirates. Scott Kazmir will make his second Spring Training start.
