Indians at the plate: Trot Nixon got his first extra-base hit of the spring when he doubled off Casey Fossum in his first at-bat. Jason Michaels hit a two-run homer in the fourth off right-hander Gary Glover.

Rays at the plate: Akinori Iwamura had a triple and scored on Shawn Riggans' single in the fourth, and also grounded out in the sixth to drive home the Rays' second run. Jonny Gomes hit a double to the 380-foot mark in left field.

Indians on the mound: Fausto Carmona pitched three scoreless innings before surrendering a run in the fourth. The run proved significant since it ended a 28-inning scoreless streak by the Indians staff that dated back to the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Rays on the mound: Fossum made his second start of the spring and held the Indians scoreless for 2 2/3 innings. The left-hander, who had shoulder surgery in September, left the game after walking Travis Hafner with two outs in the third. Fossum gave up three hits, walked two, hit a batter, and struck out one.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 11-6; Rays 2-15.

Up next: The Rays will divide into two squads Sunday to play the Phillies in Clearwater and the Tigers in Lakeland. Left-hander Scott Kazmir will start against the Phillies in a 1:05 p.m. ET contest at Bright House Networks Field; right-hander Brett Myers will start for the Phillies.

Meanwhile, left-hander J.P. Howell will start against the Tigers in a 1:05 p.m. contest at Joker Marchant Stadium; left-hander Nate Robinson will start for the Tigers. Howell is one of four pitchers competing for the Rays' No. 5 starter slot. Right-handers Edwin Jackson and Jae Kuk Ryu, who are also competing for the spot, will also pitch Sunday. Jackson will follow Howell in Lakeland; Ryu is slated to pitch in Clearwater.

The Indians host the Dodgers Sunday afternoon in a 1:05 p.m. contest at Chain of Lakes Park. Left-hander C.C. Sabathia will start for the Indians; right-hander Derek Lowe will start for the Dodgers.
