Martinez not in starting lineup for Tribe
Hamstring shouldn't land catcher on 15-day disabled list
ARLINGTON -- Victor Martinez's sore left hamstring held him out of the Indians' lineup for the second time in three games on Tuesday, but it's not expected to land him on the 15-day disabled list."Not right now," manager Eric Wedge said of that possibility. "As long as the time off gives him help. It doesn't affect him when he's catching, which is a tremendous bonus for us." But the hamstring, Wedge said, clearly affected the switch-hitting Martinez when he faced left-handed reliever Eddie Guardado late in Monday's game, which is why Wedge opted to sit Martinez against Rangers left-handed starter A.J. Murray on Tuesday. "It looked like [the hamstring] grabbed him from the right side," Wedge said. Martinez has been dealing with the hamstring problem since Opening Day. He strained the muscle while trying to advance from first to second on a pitch in the dirt and ended up missing a week of action. Martinez said the leg has been sore ever since, but it only bothers him at the plate, not behind it. Martinez has just 11 hits in his last 62 at-bats over the last 14 games.
