CLEVELAND -- Fresh off his promotion from Triple-A Buffalo, Josh Barfield was pulled from Tuesday night's game against the Twins.

Barfield left the game after the fourth inning with a left middle finger sprain. He is listed as day-to-day.

Not that he really knows what day-to-day means.

"I've never been hurt before," Barfield said with a smile. "I'm not sure what the terminology is, but I'm fine."

Barfield appeared to suffer the injury while checking his swing in his fourth-inning at-bat against Scott Baker. He was 0-for-2 in the game after going 0-for-4 in his season debut after Monday's callup.

The Indians promoted Barfield, who was batting .255 with five homers and 21 RBIs for the Bisons, to take the place of second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera, who was optioned to Buffalo on Monday.

Utility infielder Jamey Carroll replaced Barfield in Tuesday's game.
