ANAHEIM -- Six weeks into his long rehab from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, Jake Westbrook is doing well.

Westbrook, who is on this West Coast trip with his Tribe teammates, had a checkup Tuesday with Dr. Lewis Yocum, who performed the right elbow ligament replacement surgery in Los Angeles last month, and checked out fine.

"It's stable," Westbrook said of his elbow. "I'm pleased with it. It's still a little achy and a little sore. Now it's a matter of letting it heal and doing some rehab."

The rehab, at this point, is slow and tedious.

"We're just stretching it out," Westbrook said. "We're just keeping it loose to get the swelling down and strengthen it up."

The 30-year-old Westbrook isn't expected to be ready to pitch in the bigs again until the middle of the 2009 season.
