Lineup has new look to open series
DeRosa cleared to play; Fukudome moved up to two-hole
CHICAGO -- Mark DeRosa was deemed healthy enough to start for the Cubs in Game 1 of their National League Division series on Wednesday, while manager Lou Piniella shook things up a bit elsewhere in his lineup.
DeRosa has been dealing with a left calf strain, which forced him out of Chicago's final two regular season games. However, he was cleared to take the field on Wednesday, batting seventh and playing second base.Meanwhile, Kosuke Fukudome got the start in right field and in the No. 2 spot in the batting order -- the first time Fukudome has batted in the two-hole since Sept. 1. Fukudome batted second with some frequency in midseason, but has hit in the bottom third of the order much more often recently.
Ryan Theriot, the Cubs' usual No. 2 hitter, starts at shortstop but was bumped down to the eighth spot against Los Angeles right-hander Derek Lowe. Catcher Geovany Soto bats fifth with Jim Edmonds sixth.
