LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Indians put the finishing touches on a Minor League contract for free-agent catcher Paul Phillips on Wednesday. The deal includes an invitation to attend Spring Training with the big league club.Phillips, 33, has a career .262 average and .298 on-base percentage over 91 games in the big leagues. The catcher has had stints with the Royals, White Sox and Rockies in parts of seven seasons. Last year, Phillips hit .217 in 12 games with Colorado. He appeared in 34 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs, hitting .238 with 10 RBIs over 34 games. Cleveland currently has Carlos Santana and Lou Marson behind the plate at the Major League level. The Indians also retained catcher Luke Carlin this offseason on a Minor League contract.
