GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Incoming CEO and club president Stan Kasten, who oversaw the Atlanta Braves dynasty and was instrumental in the building of the Washington Nationals, has already talked about focusing on the Dodgers' scouting and player development once he takes over.

While the organization has some top pitching prospects, clearly the recent development of top position prospects has been lacking.

"I want to put more attention and resources to two things -- scouting and player development, and starting pitching," said Kasten. "With both, anything is possible. Without both, nothing is possible. Job 1 will be scouting and player development."

As Kasten becomes more familiar with the Dodgers' farm system, he will find talented pitching, as the front office has focused on that with top Draft picks for the last decade.

Following the path of Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley are the cream of the current crop -- Zach Lee, Nathan Eovaldi, Allen Webster, Chris Reed, Angel Sanchez, Chris Withrow, Ethan Martin and Shawn Tolleson.

Stacked squads
The Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts and the Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are the affiliates that appear loaded with the most talent in the organization, at least pitching-wise.

Look for Eovaldi, Webster, Withrow, Martin and Tolleson to continue working with Chattanooga pitching coach Chuck Crim, who sent four pupils directly to the Major Leagues last year.

At Rancho Cucamonga, it's likely that Lee, Reed and Sanchez will anchor the rotation. Lee was signed in 2010 for a club-record $5.25 million to keep him from quarterbacking at LSU. Reed was last year's top pick out of Stanford, where he was a reliever and now is being transformed into a starter. Sanchez is a hard-throwing Dominican.

Class A Great Lakes might have the organization's best young position prospects in outfielders Joc Pederson and James Baldwin.
