Akron LHP T.J. McFarland is Minor League Player of the Week, May 7-13
The Cleveland Indians today announced Double-A Akron LHP T.J McFarland has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for May 7-13. The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the minor league baseball season.
McFarland, 22, went 2-0 with a 2.08ERA (13.0IP, 14H, 3R/3ER, 2BB, 8K) in 2 starts for the week. On May 5th, McFarland went 6.0 innings, allowing 9 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks with 4 strikeouts in a win over Bowie. He followed that up with 7.0 innings without allowing a run on May 10th vs. Harrisburg (5H, 0R/0ER, 0BB, 4K). On the season McFarland is 6-1 with a 2.18 ERA (41.1IP, 38H, 10R/10ER, 11BB, 24K, .253AVG) in 7 starts for the Aeros this year. He currently leads the Eastern League in wins (6), is tied for 2nd in complete games (1), 9th in ERA (2.18), is averaging only 2.4 walks per 9.0 innings pitched and has yet to allow a home run in 41.1 innings of work.
McFarland was the Indians' 4th round selection in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Amos Alonso Stagg High School in Illinois after signing a letter of intent to attend Missouri. In 2011, he was tied for 2nd in the Eastern League in complete games (2) and tied for 4th in starts (26). In 2010 he finished 3rd among all Indians farmhands in wins (11), ranked T2nd in the Carolina League in wins (11), 4th in ERA (3.13) and was named a Carolina League All-Star.
