MIAMI -- The Marlins are putting the finishing touches on their roster, and on Wednesday, they made a move to add more relief-pitching depth.
Miami claimed right-hander Sam Dyson off waivers from the Blue Jays. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated outfielder Kevin Mattison for assignment.
The Marlins will have 71 players in Spring Training, which opens on Feb. 12 at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla.
Dyson, 24, is a native of Tampa, Fla., who appeared in 39 Minor League games last season, combining for a 4-2 record with a 3.04 ERA. He pitched twice for the Blue Jays in July, giving up three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
The Blue Jays designated Dyson for assignment on Jan. 22.
Mattison, 27, is a left-handed-hitting outfielder who batted .241 with 13 home runs, 41 RBIs and 26 stolen bases at Triple-A New Orleans last year. He appeared in three games with the Marlins.
