ARLINGTON -- Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish left Sunday night's 7-3 victory over the Angels with a blister on his right ring finger after throwing only 85 pitches in five innings. He allowed three runs on six hits, four walks and a hit batsman, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Though Darvish threw 111 pitches in his 27-up, 26-down near-perfect game in Houston on Tuesday -- several more than the Rangers would have preferred -- manager Ron Washington had no plan to limit the pitcher's workload.
"I'll be aware of his pitch count, but I'm not going into the game because he threw 111 that we've better give him 100 this time or we better give him 90," Washington said before Sunday's game. "The Angels' bats and his effective pitching are going to determine how far he goes."
