Royals, Magniflex announce partnership
New outfielder Aoki serves as spokesperson for italian-based company
KANSAS CITY, MO (March 10, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals are pleased to announce a new partnership with Magniflex. This marks the first Japanese originated deal for the Royals. The partnership with Magniflex will involve television-visible signage behind home plate.
"The Royals have always offered an opportunity for our partners to reach a national audience on a regular basis throughout the entire summer," said Wes Engram, Royals Sr. Director-Corporate Partnerships & Broadcast Sales. "The addition of Nori Aoki to the Royals lineup allows us to now offer international exposure as well."
Aoki, who was acquired by the Royals in December 2013, serves as a spokesperson for Magniflex's Magni Sports mattress line. He played two seasons (2012-13) with the Milwaukee Brewers after a successful career with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows and is set to become the first Japanese-born position player to suit up for the Royals and the fourth Japanese-born player overall, joining pitchers Mac Suzuki (1999-2002), Yasuhiko Yabuta (2008-09) and Hideo Nomo (2008). Due to the high media and fan interest of Aoki in his native country, the Royals expect to have more than 60 games broadcast back to Japan in 2014.
MLB Japan assisted the Royals in securing the partnership. Magniflex is a global mattress company based in Italy, and specializes in mattresses and other bed accessories. The company has a presence in over 75 international markets around the world, including the United States. Magniflex is represented by Flagsport, which is the official licensing agent for Magniflex in Japan.
