Red Sox recall infielder Brock Holt from Triple-A Pawtucket
Infielder Ryan Roberts designated for assignment
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today recalled infielder Brock Holt from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, infielder Ryan Roberts was designated for assignment. Holt will be active for tonight's game against the Orioles at 7:10 p.m. at Fenway Park.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
Holt, 25, rejoins the Red Sox for his second major league stint of the season. Through 12 games for Pawtucket, the left-handed hitter has batted .380 (19-for-50) with six doubles, one triple, one home run, and three RBI. Among all International League players, he ranks tied for second in doubles, tied for third in hits, and tied for fourth in batting average. Defensively, he has appeared in seven games at shortstop, three at second base, and two at third base. Holt was recalled by Boston for one day on April 6, but did not appear in a game.
Roberts, 33, hit .105 (2-for-19) with three walks and one run scored over his eight games with the Red Sox. He made seven starts defensively for the club, all at third base. Roberts was signed by Boston as a free agent on April 7. For his major league career, he has hit .243 (365-for-1500) with 71 doubles, four triples, 46 home runs, and 169 RBI in 518 games between the Blue Jays (2006-07), Rangers (2008), Diamondbacks (2009-12), Rays (2012-13), and Red Sox (2014).
