Akron RHP Cody Anderson earns Minor League Player of the Week honors
The Cleveland Indians today announced that Double-A Akron RHP CODY ANDERSON has been named Indians Minor League Player of the Week for May 19-25. The Indians Player of the Week Award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.
Anderson, 23, allowed just one run on 5 hits over 6.1 innings in his last start on Saturday vs. Reading, following up a 5.0 IP shutout performance in his previous start on May 18 at Erie. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound righty has allowed one earned run or fewer in 4 of his last 6 starts, notching a pair of 5.0 IP shutouts over that span. Anderson ranks 2nd on the RubberDucks with 51.2 innings on the season and has notched 32 strikeouts against 16 walks.
The Quincy, California native was named the Indians Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2013 after going 9-4 with the lowest ERA (2.65) in the entire Indians Player Development System. Anderson was named to both the Midseason and Postseason Carolina League All Star teams and was also named CL Pitcher of the Year at the conclusion of the season. Originally a 14th round selection by Cleveland in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, Anderson entered the 2014 season ranked by Baseball America as the 5th best prospect in the entire Indians organization.
