Indians LHP CLIFF LEE has been named the Indians Roberto Clemente Award Recipient for the 2005 season for his involvement in the community. He is one of 30 nominees for the national 2005 Roberto Clemente Award which recognizes the MLB player who combines outstanding skills on the field with devoted work in the community.
Cliff's community efforts include work with the Flashes of Hope, the Providence House Inc, Major League Lunch, Grand Slam Summer Literacy Reading Program and Weeklong Baseball Camps. The Providence House is Ohio's first and only 26-bed residential Crisis Nursery offering a round-the-clock residential crisis intervention program that provides an immediate placement solution for babies and children from newborn through age 5 in at-risk situations where they are in imminent danger of abuse or neglect. Cliff and his wife Kristen are frequent visitors.
Cliff has also been a regular visitor at University Hospital's Rainbow Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. He will receive his award tonight in a pre-game ceremony as JOHN HANCOCK will donate a $2,500 check in Cliff's name to the Ronald McDonald House.
