CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians today named DAVE HUDGENS Hitting Coordinator. Hudgens replaces Derek Shelton, who was promoted to Major League Hitting Coach in June.
Hudgens, 48, spent the last three seasons since 2003 as the Major League Hitting Coach for the Oakland Athletics. He spent 16 years in the Oakland organization in various capacities on the Major League staff and Player Development system where he was a roving hitting coordinator and minor league manager. He also spent six years in the Houston Astros Player Development system in similar capacities. He played professionally for 5 seasons from 1979-83 in the Cleveland and Oakland systems and appeared in 6 games w/the A's in 1983.
As Minor League Hitting Coordinator Hudgens is responsible for overseeing the organizational hitting program - which includes the continued development of individual players and minor league hitting coaches at all levels of the organization.
