Cleveland Indians infielder Asdrubal Cabrera and Minnesota Twins outfielder Carlos Gomez have been named the Bank of America Presents the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending Sept. 14th. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the company's long-standing tradition of recognizing achievements that inspire us all to seize opportunities to perform at our very best.

Cabrera hit .455 (10-22) with three doubles, a home run and eight RBI last week. The 22-year-old infielder posted three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI efforts en route to a .727 slugging percentage along with a .481 on-base percentage. During a four-game series Sept. 8th-11th at Baltimore's Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Cabrera went 6-for-12 with six RBI. On Sept. 12th he hit a two-run homer in a 12-5 win over the Royals in Cleveland. On the season, the Venezuela native is batting .247 with five home runs and 38 RBI. This is Cabrera's first career weekly honor.

Gomez hit .333 (7-21) with two doubles, a triple and 10 RBI, driving in at least one run in each of his games last week. The 22-year-old outfielder compiled a .524 slugging percentage along with a .360 on-base percentage. He posted a 2-for-4 game with a run scored and a career-high four RBI in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Baltimore, coming through with a two-run single in the seventh inning and a two-run double in the ninth inning of a 12-2 win over the Orioles. On the season, the Dominican Republic native is batting .254 with 71 runs, six home runs, 51 RBI and 30 stolen bases for the 82-67 (.550) Twins, who are 1.5 games behind the A.L. Central-leading Chicago White Sox. This marks Gomez's first career weekly award.

Other nominees considered were New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (.545, 1 2B, 1 HR), who yesterday tied Lou Gehrig for the most all-time hits (1,269) at Yankee Stadium; Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Lyle Overbay (.400, 2 2B, 5 RBI); and Baltimore Orioles first baseman Oscar Salazar (.357, 1.000 SLG. 3 HR, 8 RBI). Boston Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester (2-0, 0.57 ERA, 15.2 IP, 15 SO) and Blue Jays right-hander A.J. Burnett (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 13.0 IP, 13 SO) were among the pitchers nominated.

Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, will supply both Carlos Gomez and Asdrubal Cabrera with luxury Swiss Tourneau timepieces, suitably engraved, in recognition of their achievements as co-players of the week.
