Indians sign LHP Jesse English to Minor League contract

Today, the Cleveland Indians announced they have signed LHP JESSE ENGLISH to a minor league contract. English will report to minor league camp.

English, 26, made his Major League debut with the Washington Nationals last year and compiled 7 appearances with the Nats (7.0IP, 10H, 3R/ER, 2BB, 4K). He also made 16 appearances at AAA Syracuse going 2-1 with a 5.03 ERA (19.2IP, 18H, 11R/ER, 10BB, 14K) and tossed 4.0 scoreless innings (3G, 4.0IP, 1H, 1R/0ER, 6K) for the GCL Nationals in 2010.

The 6-3, 220-pound left-handed pitcher was originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 6th round of the 2002 June draft. He was claimed by the Washington Nationals off waivers in September of 2009 and owns a career minor league record of 34-19 with a 3.95 ERA (433.0IP, 364H, 214R/190ER, 224BB, 468K, .229 avg against) in 139 games/69 starts.
