CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians and Manager Manny Acta today named Bruce Fields Major League Hitting Coach. Fields replaces Jon Nunnally, effective immediately.
Fields is in his sixth season in the Indians organization, having served as the AAA Buffalo Hitting Coach in 2006 and as the club's Minor League Hitting Coordinator since 2007. Prior to joining the Indians, he served as the Major League Hitting Coach of the Detroit Tigers over three seasons from 2003-05. As part of his 34 years in professional baseball as a player, coach and instructor, Fields played professionally for 14 seasons from 1978-91, including parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues with Detroit and Seattle in 1986, 1988 and 1989.
"Jon has played a big role in the Indians organization since 2006, and I would like to thank him for his hard work and dedication over the last season and a half on the Major League staff," said Cleveland Indians Manager Manny Acta. "We are confident that Bruce Fields, who is very familiar with our current players and has a vast set of experiences coaching and preparing hitters at this level, will continue the work he has done developing our hitters at every level of the organization."
