Indians acquire RHP Ubaldo Jimenez from the Colorado Rockies

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has acquired RHP Ubaldo Jimenez from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for RHP Alex White, RHP Joe Gardner, INF Matt McBride and a player to be named later.
Jimenez, 27, has gone 6-9 with a 4.46 ERA (123.0IP, 118H, 68R/61ER, 51BB, 118K, .251 avg) and 2 complete games in 21 starts so far this season for the Rockies. He currently ranks 9th among National League pitchers in strikeouts per 9.0IP (8.6), T14th in strikeouts (118) and 21st in batting average against (.251). Entering Saturday's 1.0IP abbreviated start at San Diego over his previous 11 starts since June 1 he is 6-4 with a 3.03 ERA (71.1IP, 69H, 24ER, 17BB, 71K) and won 3 of his last 4 starts, going 3-1 with a 3.51 ERA (25.2IP, 26H, 10ER) with 29 strikeouts and just 7 walks over the span. Away from Coors Field this year he has gone 3-4 with a 3.38 ERA (61.1IP, 40H, 23ER) and a .183 average against in 10 starts compared to his record of 3-5 with a 5.55 ERA (61.2IP, 78H, 38ER, .310 avg) in 11 starts at home.
Last year, the 6-4, 210-pound native of the Dominican Republic was chosen as the starting pitcher for the National League in his first career All-Star appearance and went 19-8 with a 2.88 ERA (221.2IP, 164H, 73R/71ER, 92BB, 214K) in 33 starts in 2010 for Colorado. He led the National League in winning percentage (.704), was 2nd in average against (.209), 3rd in wins (19) and strikeouts (214), T3rd in complete games (4), 7th in innings pitched (221.2) and 8th in ERA (2.88). Jimenez finished 3rd in the NL Cy Young voting and set new Colorado franchise marks in both wins and ERA and on April 17 tossed the club's first no-hitter in franchise history in Atlanta (9.0IP, 0H, 0R, 6BB, 7K). From May 15 through July 8 he won 9 straight decisions, which tied the Yankees C.C. Sabathia for the longest winning streak in the Majors in 2010, as he was named NL Pitcher of the Month for both April and May.
Jimenez owns a career Major League record of 56-45 with a 3.66 ERA (851.0IP, 722H, 375R/346ER, 371BB, 773K, 8CG, 3SHO, .230 avg) in 138 games/137 starts over 6 Major League seasons. He leaves Colorado as the all-time career franchise leader in strikeouts (773), 2nd in career ERA (3.66), 3rd in wins (56) and 4th in innings pitched (851.0) and starts (137). He owns a career post-season record of 0-2 w/a 3.54 ERA in 5 starts (28.0IP, 26H, 11ER, 24K) and was a member of the 2009 Dominican Republic National Team in the World Baseball Classic, where he fanned a WBC record 10 Dutch batters. He is under club control thru the 2013 season.
