Indians place OF Michael Brantley & RHP Josh Tomlin on 15-day Disabled List

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has placed OF MICHAEL BRANTLEY (right wrist inflammation) & RHP JOSH TOMLIN (right elbow soreness) on the 15-day Disabled List. Also, LHP NICK HAGADONE has been recalled from AAA Columbus.

Brantley has been limited to just 12 starts in August due to persistent soreness in the right wrist. On the year he is hitting .266 (120-451) with 24 doubles, 4 triples, 7 homers, 63 runs scored and 46 RBI in 114 games (.318OB/.384SLG/.702OPS). He is currently second on the team in runs scored (T27th in the American League). The transaction is retroactive to August 23 and marks his first career stint on the Major League DL. Newly acquired DH JIM THOME assumes Brantley's spot on the roster.

Tomlin has gone 12-7 w/a 4.25 ERA in 26 starts for the Indians this season (165.1IP, 157H, 78ER, 21BB, 89K). He is currently tied for 9th in the American League in wins (12), 6th in WHIP (1.08) and leads the American League with 1.14 walks per 9.0IP. His disablement is retroactive to August 25 and marks his first career stint on the big league DL.

Hagadone, 25, has split the season between AA Akron and AAA Columbus where he has gone a combined 6-4 with a 2.65 ERA (68.0IP, 54H, 29R/20ER, 21BB, 74K, .213 avg, 4HR) in 44 relief appearances. He started the year at AA Akron (1.59ERA, 12 games) and was promoted to AAA Columbus on May 19. The converted reliever owns an ERA of just 1.50 ERA (30.0IP, 27H, 5ER, 6BB, 35K) over his last 20 appearances since June 23 for the Clippers.

The Sumner, Washington native is making his debut at the Major League level wearing #50 (pronounced HAGG-ah-don). He was acquired from the Boston Red Sox along with RHP Justin Masterson and Bryan Price on July 31, 2009 in a trade that sent CA Victor Martinez to Boston. He was the 55th overall selection between the first and second rounds of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Washington. He entered the 2011 season ranked as the 10th best prospect in the Indians system according to Baseball America.

The Indians now have seven players on the Major League DL (Carrasco, Kipnis, Sizemore, Hafner, Brantley, Tomlin, Crowe). The 40-man roster is full at 40.
