Game Face goes online
'Batter Up' to replace in-stadium magazine
By Anthony Castrovince / MLB.com
Game Face is getting a new face. The magazine that has long served as the official Indians program at Jacobs Field will be available exclusively online this season. It will be replaced at the ballpark by a free gameday handout at the gates, featuring a scorecard and roster sheet known as "Batter Up!" A limited edition Indians Yearbook also return in 2006. "We've stepped away from Game Face," said Curtis Danburg, the team's manager of communications and creative services. "We're going in a different direction to enhance the fan experience at the ballpark by offering added value with a free gameday handout. Our fans are sure to enjoy 'Batter Up!'" That new direction will take the Game Face content to Indians.com, where fans will find all the popular features they were accustomed to seeing in the game program. "Our research has shown that there's a trend for Tribe fans to get their editorial content on Indians.com," Danburg said. "With this in mind, we made the decision to enhance our online content by bringing Game Face to life on indians.com to support that trend." The Game Face section of indians.com will be updated with fresh content every two weeks throughout the '06 season. Fans can expect to find player profiles, "How To" features, a look into players' lockers, streaming video of interviews and other assorted Tribe material, such as photo galleries. The Indians ask that any fans not currently signed up for tribeTalk, the club's free e-mail newsletter, do so now to receive more info about Game Face, including an early link to the material on the site. But fans looking for an in-game program will still be taken care of.
"We wanted to maintain the integrity of a game program by producing and bringing back the Indians yearbook," Danburg said. "It will be sold at all Indians Team Shops and concession stands for $5. It will be a limited edition, limited quantity yearbook available while supplies last."
The "Batter Up!" program, 24 pages in length, will be handed out free of charge to all fans passing through the gates at The Jake.
The first in-season edition of Game Face will be available April 6 on indians.com, the day before the Tribe's home opener against the Twins.
