Peralta exits with left hand contusion

Infielder listed as day-to-day after being hit by pitch

CLEVELAND -- Jhonny Peralta was pulled in the seventh inning against the Orioles on Thursday night with a left hand contusion -- four innings after he took a Daniel Cabrera fastball to his left hand.

He left Progressive Field for precautionary X-rays that were negative. His status is listed as day-to-day.

Trainers attended to Peralta when he was pegged in the hand, attempting to block his face, but the 26-year-old shortstop remained in the game before Jamey Carroll pinch-hit for him in the seventh inning. Cabrera also hit Grady Sizemore with a pitch in the second inning, adding to his Major League high of 17 hit batsmen this season.

Peralta is batting .276 with 19 home runs and 66 RBIs. Since he was inserted into the cleanup spot on June 22, Peralta is batting .337 with 20 doubles, eight homers and 36 RBIs.
