Dellucci making headway in Minors

If all goes well at Triple-A, outfielder could return next week

CLEVELAND -- David Dellucci is nearing his return from a strained left calf muscle.

In six rehab games at Triple-A Columbus, Dellucci is 11-for-24 with a double, triple, two RBIs and seven runs scored. He's started one game in the outfield and the rest at designated hitter.

Dellucci's rehab can last through May 10, but manager Eric Wedge said the veteran will probably be back before then.

"It will probably be sometime next week," Wedge said. "We don't have a set day yet."

Nor have the Indians decided who will be removed from the 25-man roster to make way for Dellucci. If the move happened now, Cleveland would probably go back to a 12-man pitching staff and discard somebody from its bullpen, thus preserving Trevor Crowe's spot on the bench.

"That's a possibility," Wedge said. "It depends on what happens between now and then."
