Peralta gets another day to rest

Shortstop jammed right wrist sliding into third base Friday

CINCINNATI -- Just as Jhonny Peralta was hitting his stride at the plate, he hit his right hand on the bag while sliding into third base Friday night, jamming his wrist.

That injury, albeit minor, kept Peralta out of the Indians' lineup both Saturday and Sunday, though Peralta was available off the bench in both games.

"I felt his swing was headed in the right direction before he jammed his wrist," manager Eric Wedge said. "The last thing I want is for him to favor [the wrist] and throw off his swing."

So it was another off-day for Peralta on Sunday.

"I feel better," said Peralta, whose wrist was wrapped in a bandage Sunday morning. "I felt a little sore [Saturday]."

After a slow start to the season, Peralta was batting .389 (21-for-54) with four doubles and 10 RBIs in a 14-game stretch before injuring his wrist. He hopes to be back in the lineup Monday against the Rays.
