Brown, Rivero homer in intrasquad

Lewis lauded by Acta in 'gutsy' frame; Sipp struggles

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Jordan Brown and Carlos Rivero swapped 2-for-2 days with a home run on Tuesday in the Indians' first of two intrasquad games of Spring Training.

Sarby's Sour Balls, proudly named after Triple-A pitching coach Mike Sarbaugh, edged Smitty's (first-base coach Steve Smith) American Racers, 3-2, in a four-inning exercise.

Rivero, playing for the winners, homered in the first inning off Saul Rivera and added a single amid a two-run rally in the third against Tony Sipp.

Brown singled in the first and led off the third with a homer off Jess Todd to briefly tie the game at 2.

Sipp didn't retire a batter in his stint. He allowed two singles and three walks, including a bases-loaded pass to Brian Buscher that forced in the winning run.

"I liked what I saw from the hitters. They're not that far behind," said Cleveland manager Manny Acta, who also lauded reliever Jensen Lewis' nervy effort in a perfect inning spiced with two strikeouts.

"He threw consecutive changeups on 3-1 and 3-2 [to Wyatt Toregas]," Acta said. "Gutsy."

The Indians are scheduled to hold their final intrasquad game Wednesday. They begin Cactus League play Friday by "visiting" complex-neighbor Cincinnati at Goodyear Ballpark.
