Indians sign veteran righty Davies to Minors deal

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Indians added some veteran depth to their Minor League system on Wednesday, signing right-hander Kyle Davies to a Minor League contract. The deal does not include an invitation to Major League camp.

Davies, 30, who will report to Minor League camp next week, pitched at three levels in the Minnesota organization last season after returning from right shoulder surgery. The right-hander missed all of 2012 due to the arm injury.

After missing the first two months last year, Davies logged 12 starts, going 4-3 with a 3.41 ERA between Class A and Double-A for Minnesota. In 58 innings, the starter compiled 47 strikeouts against 16 walks, finishing with a 1.31 WHIP.

In parts of seven seasons in the big leagues, Davies has gone 43-65 with a 5.59 ERA in 151 games (144 starts) between tours with the Braves and Royals. He last appeared in the Majors in 2011, when he went 1-9 with a 6.75 ERA for Kansas City, which released him in August that season.
