The Indians placed Lonnie Chisenhall on the paternity leave list on Thursday so he can be with his wife, Meredith, for the birth of their second child. Cleveland recalled infielder Justin Sellers from Triple-A Columbus to fill in for Chisenhall for the next few days.
Sellers, 28 years old, was acquired from the Dodgers this spring and batted .450 in 13 exhibition games for the Indians. Sellers began the year at Columbus -- playing four games at shortstop and two at second base -- and batted .158 (3-for-19) vs.Triple-A pitching this year.
Chisenhall has hit in all five games that he's played in this season, and he's batting .400 (6-for-15) at this early juncture. The former first-round Draft pick is a career .248 hitter in 208 Major League games.
Chisenhall, 25, will be able to stay on the paternity leave list for as many as three days.
